Thoroughbred Horseman’s Association (THA) recently received a $4,000 grant from the Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation. Thanks to this grant, THA will continue to grow the Horsemen U online educational platform and its membership.
(West Chester, PA – December 16, 2025): The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) is pleased to award $4,000 to Thoroughbred Horseman’s Association (THA) to be used to grow its Horsemen U online platform.
THA Chairman Alan Foreman applauded the partnership between Horsemen U and TERF. “Horsemen U was born of the efforts of the Mid-Atlantic stakeholders involved in the Strategic Plan to Reduce Equine Fatalities,” Foreman said. “We’ve had state regulators, racetrack management and horsemen’s groups working together to improve the safety of our sport, and continuing education is an important component of the plan. Our collective work, with TERF’s financial support, has allowed us to be the forerunner of HISA’s Safety Program and an invaluable component of its Continuing Education Program for horsemen. Joining forces with TERF will and continue to strengthen our initiative and help to ensure our horsemen have the tools they need to provide the best care possible for the horses.”
Horsemen U is a free online platform for licensed owners, trainers, and assistant trainers to fulfill continuing education (CE) requirements and track their progress. It provides webinars on various topics related to equine welfare and safety, and users can earn CE certificates upon completion. This year, the goal is to add at least one course per month in 2025, and to grow the membership to 2,000 active users by the end of the year.
TERF’s grants reflect the values set forth by founders Herb and Ellen Moelis. TERF’s current Board includes Co-Chairs Kathleen Anderson, DVM and James Orsini, DVM, Lynne Cassimeris, Ph.D.,
Margaret Duprey, Roy Jackson, Katelyn Jackson, Ellen Moelis, Cory Moelis, Wendy Moon,
Anita Motion, Scott Palmer, VMD, Will Phipps, and Josh Pons.
