Janet Johnston was born and raised in Piqua, Ohio she grew up with horses being a big part of her life. A graduate of The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine, she completed dual residencies in large animal internal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, where she later founded the nation’s first stand-alone large animal emergency and critical care service. As an emergency clinician and Service Chief at New Bolton, Dr. Johnston has led advancements in equine critical care, with a particular focus on gastrointestinal emergencies and colic surgery. Her leadership extends beyond veterinary medicine through her service on multiple corporate boards, her long-standing involvement in community organizations, and her commitment to advancing veterinary education through the Philanthropic Engagement Council at Ohio State. Dr. Johnston’s lifelong dedication to improving the health and wellbeing of horses makes her a deeply valuable addition to the Board.
